Feature Video | Gabriel Garzón-Montano | Bombo Fabrika

– by Camille Banzon, Music Editor –

French-Colombian musician Gabriel Garzón-Montano truly mesmerises visually and sonically in his latest video for the track, Bombo Fabrika.

Filmed in San Basilio de Palenque, approximately 35 miles southeast of Cartagena, the video shows the different colorful elements of the town’s daily habits. Remezcla did a beautifully-written piece about the filming of the video, stating the history of the small town and how it is considered to be one of the first free towns in the Americas founded by cimarrones. The video is directed by Santiago Carrasquilla, after Garzón-Montano’s group was toured by photographer  Guillermo Camacho around town, introducing the musician to core members of the music community.

“Palenque is a magical place – people blasting music and playing drums and singing everywhere – expressing more joy than I’ve seen or felt in my whole life,” said Garzón-Montano about Palenque.

Aside from singing and mimicking African dance moves, Garzón-Montano is seen bathing in muddy waters, hanging out with the town’s local hip-hop legends, Kombilesa, and just breezing his way through jubilant Palenque scenery.

“Bombo Fabrika is about the place I go to when I write music. The music is not mine, it flows through me from a source much older and wiser than my body. Palenque is famous for originating some styles of Cumbia music which I’ve been greatly influenced by. Filming this video in such an energetically potent musical birthplace was an incredible and humbling experience,” added the musician.
