Today’s Tip: Make the Leap

In honor of Leap Year, I’m going to talk about something I have referred to often lately: making the leap.

Everyone has ideas and dreams.

hollywoodEveryone has some degree of creativity and ability.

But most people don’t act on these things. They talk and think and even plan what they’d like to do, but they’re afraid to take the steps that will actually allow them to do it.

I do not believe everyone can achieve anything they want to if they “put it out into the universe.” A) That’s bullshit and B) That’s far from the case if you happen to have been born in most economic levels in most countries and especially if you’re female.

If you’re lucky enough to live in a free nation, however, then you can – though admittedly depending on the color of your skin and other factors you may have more barriers than others do.

tasteBut I’m not just talking about big things like switching your major three years in, or starting a new business, or taking off to find your fortunes in Hollywood, or putting things on hold while you travel the world.

I’m also talking about small things: trying a new food, starting a run-walk program, getting a new hairstyle, learning to swim. These are all things that require taking an extra action than just thinking about it, and for some people that extra step is enough to stop them in their tracks.

The past couple of weeks we at Q-Ave have been talking about some great ideas for the site. (I’m so excited!) But just before our recent staff meeting I realized that everyone seemed to be waiting for something before actually following through with them: Orders from me? A message from God?

That realization dictated the theme of the meeting:

hairstyleMake the leap.

It doesn’t have to be perfect, and it certainly won’t be at the beginning, but you have talent and you have great ideas. Put them to use, and learn how to get better over time.

You don’t need permission.

Give yourself the same respect you want from others. You never know where that extra step will take you.
