“I found myself all alone in a grocery store more stoned than I think I’ve ever been before…” sings the vocalist of Partner, a pop rock garage band from New Brunswick.
Reminding us of songs by The Murmurs, KD Lang, and the entirety of the 90’s rock feminist movement, Partner’s “Everybody Knows You’re High” is a quirky track that we couldn’t stop listening and laughing to. The lyrics are simple: the heroine gets massively high on 13 bong rips (or more) and then gets paranoid, saying to herself that “everybody knows you’re high.”
It’s easy to react to the lyrics, but the way that the song is arranged is actually attractive. The hums, the soft pop punk-ish riffs, and 90’s rock style drum beats and bass all give it the character that makes it stand out.
