If you’re into trip hop and downtempo, it is certain that you’ve heard of Doug Appling, aka Emancipator. The producer, beat maestro, and musician from Portland flawlessly maintained his relevance in the electro realm throughout the years, and now, he has resurfaced with “Ghost Pong” that’s truly reminiscent of his earlier stuff.
Going back to their old sounds might seem easy and boring for some artists, but for Emancipator, it works like old charm. This means that he made use of the late 90’s, early 2000’s slow and steady trip hop vibe, and even inserted some cello towards the end of the song. It’s a mild eargasm condensed in 4 minutes and 51 seconds, and I’m elated to hear old school trip hop braiding itself into the more contemporary and new school trends.
