Artist Spotlight: Linda Arkelian

– by Wendy Morley –

Forget being visited by the muse; Linda Arkelian seems to have a pretty close relationship with a whole lot of muses. She’s had a full career as a professional dancer, touring internationally with both ballet and contemporary dance companies, and is now a dance teacher at both Simon Fraser University and the Scotiabank Dance Centre.

She is also a visual artist, actor and filmmaker, and teaches visual art in the school system as a guest artist. Additionally, she created an event called “Bringing Artists Together.” Of this event, she says: “It’s a project where I invite artists of all disciplines—visual artists, musicians, sculptors, poets, photographers, writers, filmmakers—to explore their art during my advanced ballet class.”

We at The Violet Wave think with a body of work this extensive, Linda demands a more comprehensive feature. Therefore we will bring that to you in the coming months. But for now please enjoy this film, titled “Eclipse,” which she made with her film partner David Cooper.

Linda lives in Vancouver, British Colombia.
